Luvo handles HMRC R&D enquiry and achieves £10k tax saving for IT company

A small, but highly entrepreneurial IT company, based in central London was introduced to us by their Accountant, to ask for our assistance in dealing with an HMRC R&D enquiry. A claim had been filed, but when we reviewed, unfortunately the claim paperwork wasn’t in line with HMRC expectations and costs had been claimed that do not qualify. Both accountant and client had tried to answer the queries raised by HMRC but not to the satisfaction of the inspector involved, so they decided to seek specialist advice when HMRC requested a face to face meeting to discuss the claim.

We were confident that the client was indeed eligible, so we prepared the claim paperwork from scratch, re-calculated the qualifying costs and took over negotiations with HMRC.

If you need advice on claiming R&D tax credits, please get in touch with the expert team here at Luvo and we’ll be happy to help.

Following submission of the revised paperwork, and a conversation with the Inspector in charge of the enquiry, HMRC promptly accepted and settled the claim, deciding the face to face meeting was no longer necessary. This resulted in the client achieving a tax saving of £10k for the year in question, and HMRC thanking us for our assistance.
